Disciplines Group for Animal Biotechnology

The disciplines group of animal biotechnology prioritizes the development of 4 national leading disciplinary orientations of cattle and sheep genetic engineering breeding, livestock genetic improvement, cattle and sheep nutrition metabolism and feed science, and livestock disease prevention and control and the world-class orientation of cattle and sheep genetic engineering breeding to meet the strategic demand and resolve key problems of animal husbandry industry in China. Thetalent training ranked top level in China; the undergraduate programs of Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine and Pratacultural Science were approved national first-class specialties, and one project was honored Outstanding Teaching Achievements Award in Shaanxi Province. More than 20 academic papers were published in Science, Nature Communication and other top international academic journals and 10 doctoral dissertations were titled excellent thesis in Shaanxi Province. The scientific research greatly escalated: the State Key Laboratory (Incubation) of Livestock Biology officially launched in 2018; 34 major or key projects presided;  1 second prize of National Award for Technological Invention and 6 first prizes of Provincial and Ministerial Award for Technological Progress; Professor Zhang Yong elected CAE academician in 2019; 2 talents recruited by Four Programs for China Young Outstanding Scholars. 30 institutes, technical service and training stations were established to highlight the integration of industry, university and institutes, advance university-enterprises cooperation and significantly improve the social service and the sci-technological achievements transfer. More than 50 international cooperation projects have been approved, 10 international academic conferences held and over 100 staff and students attended international academic conferences each year, significantly uplifting the internationalization, international reputation and impact of the disciplines. Veterinary Medicine is building itself an internationally-renowned and domestically-leading discipline at a fast pace.
